Police hoping public can help ID person of interest in Kamloops arson investigation

The Kamloops RCMP has turned to the public in hopes of advancing an arson investigation.

Around 2:25 am on June 3, police responded to a report of a dumpster on fire near the 100 block of Victoria Street West.

Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze, but the RCMP says it’s part of a bigger problem.

“This investigation is one of at least half a dozen fire reports in the downtown area over the last month, most of which were in dumpsters,” explained Cpl. Dana Napier. “Whether or not the fires are related is part of the ongoing investigation.”

Police have released a photo of a man who was in the area near the time of the June 3 and are labelling him as a “person of interest.”

Mounties are hoping the public can help identify the man, seen in the photo walking along the sidewalk wearing a black hat, black tanktop and black pants, to help further in the investigation.

Anyone who recognizes the man, or has any information on any recent fire in the downtown area, is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
