The police watchdog is investigating after a man was seriously hurt during an arrest in Kamloops.
It happened on Dec. 3 shortly after 7:25 pm, according to the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC.
Mounties had been called about a robbery near the Lansdowne Mall, but en route they were informed of an alleged theft at another business in the same area.
“Officers saw a male cyclist matching the description of one of the alleged suspects near the intersection of 3rd Avenue and Lansdowne Street,” the IIO report explained.
“The cyclist reportedly fled into Riverside Park and was pursued by officers.
“The cyclist sustained a serious injury while being taken into custody.”
The IIO said it was informed of the incident later in the same day.
The watchdog is now asking anyone with relevant information or footage of the incident to contact the Witness Line toll-free at 1-855-446-8477 or via the form on the iiobc.ca website.
The IIO investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
