Prescribed burn happening north of Kamloops this week

Smoke from a prescribed burn will be visible north of the city as early as this week.

The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) and Thompson Rivers Natural Resource District will be working in the O’Connor Lake area.

The BCWS said crews are scheduled to begin work on the 3.5 hectare burn as early as Thursday.

However, the exact timing of the burn will depend on the weather.

“Burning will proceed if conditions are suitable and allow for smoke dispersal during burn operations, though smoke may also linger in the following days,” the BCWS said.

Smoke may be visible from Kamloops, Heffley Creek and surrounding areas.

People travelling north on Highway 5 may also notice smoke.
