The Province is looking to replace the housing units at the Glenfair seniors complex in Kamloops with new high-quality affordable homes.
The nine residential buildings, located at 1100 Glenfair Dr., provide 80 affordable homes for those on fixed incomes, such as seniors and those living with disabilities.
The homes are owned by BC Housing and opened between 1958 and 1982.
“Glenfair has provided safe and affordable homes for seniors and people with disabilities in Kamloops for decades,” said David Eby, attorney general and minister for housing, in a statement.
"A redevelopment could modernize its aging homes and ensure that it continues to be a valuable housing resource for the community for years to come.”
Planning is in the early stages and the Province confirms that tenants, neighbouring residents and others will be included in the consultation process.
“The city is encouraged to see that BC Housing will be conducting a thorough planning and engagement process to help inform the redevelopment of Glenfair,” said Ken Christian, mayor, City of Kamloops.
“The replacement of aging affordable housing [...] aligns with the Downtown Plan’s land-use policies for this area of the Columbia Precinct.”
If this project is approved, tenants will have the support to stay in their homes as long as possible and will have first pick of the new units.
