(UPDATE March 9 @ 8:30 a.m.) — RCMP say they have recovered the body found at the Domtar pulp mill site.
The body was found in one of the ponds by employees on Wednesday afternoon.
"At this time it is still not known the gender, age or identity of the body," Cpl. Jodi Shelkie said in a media release on Friday morning. "Once an autopsy has been completed more information will be forthcoming."
"Officers are still processing the scene and the investigation is ongoing."
(UPDATE March 8 @ 9 a.m.) — RCMP say the body that was discovered at Domtar by employees on Wednesday has not yet been recovered from the site.
Police continue to investigate after the body was found in one of the ponds and have not disclosed whether or not foul play is suspected.
"The scene is currently being processed by forensic specialists," said Cpl. Jodi Shelkie in a media release.
"Once the body has been removed, an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and time of death and its identity. At this time, it is unknown what the gender or age of the body is.
"Kamloops RCMP are securing the site until the body has been extracted."
RCMP were notified by Domtar employees on March 7 at 3 p.m. that a body had been discovered in one of the ponds on site at Mission Flats Road. The Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime Unit, the Forensic Identification Section and the Coroners Officer attended.
The investigation is ongoing.
(STORY March 7 @ 4:30 p.m.) — The RCMP Serious Crime Unit is currently on site at Domtar pulp mill where a body was discovered this afternoon.
Cpl. Jodi Shelkie said RCMP were called to Domtar just after 3 p.m. after some employees reported seeing a body in one of the ponds. In addition to the Serious Crime Unit, the Coroners Service is also currently on scene.
“The investigation is in infancy and very few details are available,” Shelkie said in a media release.
“At this time it is unknown how the body came to be in the pond, how long it has been there or if foul play is suspected.”
