RCMP looking for information after tow truck stolen off Hwy 5 between Kamloops, Merritt

The Kamloops RCMP are investigating after a tow truck was stolen off Highway 5 on Monday.

A release says officers responded to an area on the highway, west of Kamloops, where a tow truck had been helping people with a flat tire.

Officers were told that the drivers of a “suspicious” black BMW were receiving help from the tow truck driver.

As officers arrived on scene at about 5:30 am, they spoke with the tow truck operator outside of the vehicle.

That’s when the two people from the BMW allegedly stole the tow truck and drove west towards Merritt with the BMW still attached.

In an odd turn of events, the BMW was later recovered near Salmon Arm and the tow truck was found near Tappen.

Both vehicles were unoccupied.

The Kamloops RCMP are now looking to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the tow truck after it was taken or the BMW before the theft of the truck.

Anyone with information or dash cam footage can call the Kamloops detachment at (250) 828-3000 and refer to file 2023-38963.
