Students returning to Rayleigh Elementary School were in for a rude awakening when they made their way to class for the first time this week.
According to principal Shaun Mckenna, the school was vandalized at 1:40 am on Sunday night.
"We think that there was some kind of party at the back of the school because we found some beers and bottles and stuff back there, and on the roof," said Mckenna. "So we figured it was something going on there, while that was happening, someone decided to smash one of our windows and use a pry bar to pry open one of our doors that leads into the school."
Mckenna explained that the vandals damaged a door, smashed windows, and sprayed five fire extinguishers around the school. He adds that the school has no idea why this would happen, though they figured it was the work of teenagers.
"We figure it's teenagers, past that we're not sure. It's happened a number of times before and we keep working on making better doors so they won't get in, but they seem to figure it out."
Mckenna mentioned the students were disappointed someone would do this to their school.
"They're shook up a little, they're upset that someone would do this to their school. I guess the big question that doesn't make sense to them is 'why someone would do this?'"
The principal went on to say the school and Kamloops RCMP would be working together to make sure this Wouldn't happen again.
