The last few months of 2024 saw a slight decrease in the number of passengers travelling through the Kamloops airport, something that’s been attributed to reduced services.
In a news release, Ed Ratuski, the airport’s managing director, said 76,560 travellers visited the Kamloops airport between October and December.
To be more specific, October saw 26,228 travellers, November saw 23,905 and December saw 26,427.
The total number for the fourth quarter of 2023 was recorded at 84,218 people.
That is a 9.1% decrease during the last three months of 2024 compared to the previous year.
Ratuski said that is due to flight frequency reductions to Calgary and Vancouver.
“Although flights are operating at or near capacity on all routes, the current frequency reductions are expected to remain in the near term with pre-pandemic services to Calgary returning in the spring,” the news release said
Additionally, the Kamloops Airport is working the city’s business and tourism industry partners on more destination development opportunities to bring in more visitors.
Although the traveller numbers for the fourth quarter of the year are lower, the total number of travellers for 2024 is only about 0.4% lower than the previous year.
A total of 310,507 people traveled through the airport in 2024.
In 2023, there were 311,696 travellers.
The news release said airport managers and staff are optimistic that developing more tourism attractions will support airport numbers to pre-pandemic levels.
