Remembrance Day: Where to pay your respects on November 11th

Head down to Riverside Park this weekend to pay your respects to Canada’s fallen soldiers.

The Kamloops Royal Canadian Legion and the City of Kamloops will be hosting the annual Remembrance Day ceremonies in Riverside Park on Saturday, November 11th.

Every year, formal ceremonies are held at the cenotaph in Riverside Park followed by a parade through downtown. The schedule of events is as follows:

The ceremonies will begin at 10:45 a.m. with the mounting of the cenotaph guard. The Colour Party and Veterans Company will march at 10:55 a.m..

Legion Padre Sandra Sugden, assisted by Rocky Mountain Ranger Padre Capt. Steve Filyk, will conduct the ceremonies, which will include the singing of the National Anthem, Last Post, the Lament and Reveille. It will also include a fly past by 419 Moose Squadron from CFB Cold Lake.

Wreaths will be laid and, following the ceremonies, a parade out of Riverside Park will be lead by the Kamloops Pipe Band. Anyone who has served in the Canadian Forces, RCMP or other allied forces is welcome to march.

The parade will exit onto Lorne Street, go up First Avenue to Victoria Street and follow Victoria Street to the 500 block.

Youth participating in the parade are invited to Desert Gardens for refreshments afterward and adults are welcomed at the Legion at 425 Lansdowne St., the Anavets club at 177 Tranquille Rd., the Eagles Hall at 755 Tranquille Rd. and the Rocky Mountain Ranger mess at the armoury at 1221 McGill Rd.
