Students look forward to summer all year but, let’s face it, a couple weeks in they are already bored silly.
Luckily, there are lots of ways to keep them busy until September. Check out some of these awesome camps offered in Kamloops for kindergartners to teens.
Big Little Science Centre
Kids will have a blast experimenting at Big LIttle Science Centre this summer and it is offering weeklong camps for students in kindergarten to Grade 12 in July and August. New this year is the Arduino Coding Camp for kids aged 12 and up. They’ll be designing and making their own machines with an expert TRU professor. Others include Robotics Camp, Junior Science Camp and Field Science Camp. Get more info on the BLSC website.
B.C. Wildlife Park
Kids will have a chance to explore wildlife and learn about their habitats during day camps at the B.C. Wildlife Park. Camps are for kids aged six to 10 and each day is based on an exciting new topic with tailored activities. Camps run July 10th to 14th, July 24th to 28th and August 14th to August 18th with themes like Cool Cats, Alien Invasion, Radical Reptiles and Great Bear Rainforest. Sport Camps
TRU has a whole host of sport camps for kids of all ages starting as early as next week: soccer, ball hockey, football, basketball, volleyball, swimming, multi-sport, junior pups, triatholon, cheerleading, games, contest and relays — you name it. The weeklong camps are offered for the next eight weeks and drop-in pricing is available for some. All the details are here.
The Olynyk Klynyk premier basketball camp with Kamloops’ very own Kelly Olynyk of the Boston Celtics also runs July 24th to July 27th for kids ages 13 to 18. More info is on their website.
4Cats Arts Studio
Keep your young Picasso creating this summer with two- three- four- or five-day camps at 4Cats Arts Studio. These “choose your own adventure” camps let kids pick their own projects from a variety of mediums and they are encouraged to follow their own interests. They’ll earn and collect badges throughout their adventure. Good for kids aged five to 12. Choose full or half-day sessions. Register online.
Canoe and Kayak Club
Tweens will have some fun hanging out at Shumway Lake and learning some paddling fundamentals. The club runs eight one-week summer camps starting next week. Youth aged eight to 13 will get to kayak, canoe, paddleboard and play on the water trampoline. The serene area also boasts great wildlife viewing, so they might catch a view of some deer, heron, beavers and eagles. Learn more about these camps on the club’s website.
Whatever their interests, there is definitely a summer camp that will keep kids of all ages busy and having a ton of fun this summer. There’s also an array of camps on Shuswap Lake to send kids to for a longer stay: Camp Grafton, Sunnybrae and Eagle Bay. However, spots often fill up quickly.
