Severe thunderstorm in place for Kamloops, Merritt

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Kamloops and the surrounding area.

“Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and torrential rain,” the weather statement said.

Merritt, Ashcroft, Cache Creek and as far south as Princeton are included in the watch.

Residents are advised to prepare for “very strong” gusts, downed trees and potentially heavy downpours.

Environment Canada reminds people to keep an eye out for lightning.
