Sewer upgrades in downtown Kamloops continue, more traffic changes to come

The third phase of the City Centre Sanitary Upgrades Project is beginning this week and will result in some traffic changes along Lansdowne Street.

The work, which has been ongoing since April and entered the second phase in June, will cause ongoing single-lane traffic in the 400-block of Lansdowne.

According to the city, crews will be working on Lansdowne between 4th Avenue and 5th Avenue.

Similar to stage two, there will be trench work on the north side of the street and one lane of through traffic on the south side. Single-lane traffic will begin on the 600-block of Lansdowne.

Speaking to the impacts the upgrades have on local business and residents, Matt Kachel, the city’s infrastructure delivery divisional manager, said the city appreciates the ongoing patience.

Pedestrians are reminded to obey all signage and traffic control personnel’s instructions.

In a news release, the city said the fourth stage of the project will begin at the end of the month.

“It will involve the full closure of the 5th Avenue intersection and the entire 500 block of Lansdowne Street. During that time, traffic will be detoured south on 6th Avenue to St. Paul Street,” the release said.

“Further detailed information outlining the impacts of stage four will come.”

Once complete, the Lansdowne trunk main will service the city centre, Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc area, the Sagebrush, Valleyview, Rose Hill, Juniper Ridge, Dallas, Campbell Creek, Barnhartvale, and West End neighbourhoods as well as portions of Lower Sahali.
