As we enter into another hot and dry summer, the Thompson-Nicola Regional District is exploring the option of establishing a fire protection service in the Cherry Creek area.
Residents can attend two information sessions later this month to learn more about the proposed service.
Both meetings will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2022. A virtual meeting will be held for 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm on Zoom, click here for more details.
An in-person meeting will be held from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm at the Cherry Creek Ranch Equestrian Facility (5420 Trans-Canada Highway West).
A feasibility study was completed in May to explore the option of expanding the existing Tobiano Fire Protection area to include Cherry Creek.
This report will be presented to residents during the information sessions, as well as some of the tax implications. Then there will also be an answer and question period after the presentation.
Residents will be asked if they support the TNRD moving forward and setting a date for a community referendum.

If residents would like to see the matter go to a vote, it would probably be held at the same time as the general local elections on Oct. 15, 2022.
