School District 73 has been busy this week trying to make everyone happy after the Parkcrest Elementary fire one week ago.
SD73 did just that when they announced that students a part of TREC's Bridge Program would not be heading to NorKam Secondary School. After parents of TREC students started raising concerns, Superintendent Alison Sidow worked an agreement with the Boys and Girls Club and the City of Kamloops which will see those students learning at the John Tod Centre.
“We are grateful to both the City of Kamloops and to the Boys and Girls Club of Kamloops for their generous assistance in making this arrangement possible,” said Sidow.
Bridge Program staff will host an open house for parents and guardians on Monday from 1 to 2 pm. Regular classes will start for these students on Tuesday at 8:30 am.
TREC Principal Cory Carmichael explained that staff was very appreciative of the partnership, especially for students still transitioning into secondary school.
“Often this transition is very challenging and difficult, and this program provides a crucial link to supporting that transition,” said Carmichael. “The staff at the John Todd Centre at the Boys and Girls Club have been exceptional and we look forward to this amazing partnership that supports our learning community."
District staff are also exploring the potential of relocating the TREC Program, including students in the Bridges Program, to the Happyvale site within the next few months.
