Payton Comazzetto has been wanting to create an event in honour of her late brother for years and, with Brennan’s Ugly Sweater Run, she’s finally getting to celebrate both Brennan Comazzetto’s memory and his love for all things Christmas.
The five-kilometre run or walk is taking place this weekend Rainbow's Roost in support of the Boys and Girls Club Power Start Program.
Brennan Comazzetto was hit and killed by a drunk driver 18 years ago. Payton, a TRU student, has teamed up with RunClub and organized the first-ever Ugly Sweater Run through a service learning course at the university.
“It has been an event I have thought about for years and am finally able to hold,” Payton said. “I am hoping to keep his memory, and love for the holidays, alive.”
Participants are asked to wear their ugliest holiday sweater for the festive 5K, an event Payton hopes will be filled with Christmas magic and fun. Prizes will be awarded for the ugliest sweater!
The cost is a minimum $5 donation per person of $35 for a family of four, with all proceeds going to the Boys and Girls Club.
Participants can pay via cash or cheque on the morning of the event, or donate to the Go Fund Me campaign to secure a spot.
Brennan’s Ugly Sweater Run will take place on December 3rd at 10 a.m. out at Rainbow’s Roost (participants are asked to arrive at 9:30 a.m.). Rolling Thunder will be DJing, McDonald’s will provide coffee and prizes have been donated by Runners Sole, Save-On Foods and others.
