The search for a student who was swept away in the Thompson River has come to a tragic end.
Earlier this month, the Kamloops RCMP and Search and Rescue team were called out to the east side of the Overlander Bridge after a man entered the river to retrieve a volleyball and got caught in the undercurrent.
The Kamloops SAR team, RCMP underwater recovery team, RCMP air services and RCMP marine operators have been searching for the Thompson Rivers University student ever since.
Sadly, the RCMP confirmed the young man's body was recovered on Tuesday.
Sgt. Chris Kienzle confirmed the man’s body was found near McArthur Island.
“We hope that this discovery can bring a small amount of closure for his family and friends,” Sgt. Kienzle said.
“The Kamloops RCMP Detachment offers their condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.”
Police said they will not be releasing the man’s name to protect his and his family’s privacy.
