The Face of Landscaping: Jordan McKay

Landscaping is in Jordan McKay’s blood.

The owner of Denali Landscaping & Design is a bright young entrepreneur who’s brought a thrilling new vision to landscaping in Kamloops. His mom is a home and landscape designer. “This is where I get my design eye from,” says Jordan. “One of my brothers studied Horticulture and works in landscaping as well, specializing in custom homes in the Lower Mainland. So, landscaping truly runs in our blood.”

Jordan saw something missing in the Kamloops landscape market. “A new set of eyes, a younger vision on how to run a company and a more modern take on landscaping...that’s exactly what we have brought to the table,” says Jordan. “When we are given budgets, we try to maximize them the best that we can so that every project is both unique and stunning and I am proud to attach the Denali name to it. I am very particular and have a keen eye for aesthetics.”

For instance, Jordan designed and completed the landscaping for many high-end homes at the master-planned golf resort, Tobiano. “Those landscapes and projects really have my heart,” says Jordan. “They feature custom driveways, sunken fire pits, putting greens, features built into the side of the cliff, large retaining walls and beautiful unique planting plans. Year after year, we love watching these landscapes mature into what we envisioned. We try to use paving stones and materials that are new to the scene and not used by every other landscaping company.”

While most of Jordan’s clients are new home owners and builders, he loves the challenge of renovating an older landscape that is in need of a new life. “We completed a really exciting project downtown on Pine Street where we combined a mixture of new modern paving stones as well as existing pavers from the property that were more than 50 years old,” explains Jordan.

To provide this scope of work, Denali’s services range from excavation, land clearing and paving stone driveways to patios, 3D landscape design, plant design, selection and softscape installations. “We ensure that every project we complete, we would be just as happy to have it as our own,” says Jordan. “We also offer a warranty and check-in on jobs regularly to ensure they are holding up well and everything is growing as it should.”

Jordan’s future goals include growing the business, spending more time on design, continuing to refine the Denali culture for employees and clients, while creating the best landscapes possible.
