If you were thinking about getting into politics in the River City, you would have a long line to wait in as the seventh federal election candidate just stepped forward in the Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo.
The Animal Protection Party of Canada announced that Kira Cheeseborough would be running for their group in the upcoming federal election.
Cheeseborough is a Bachelor of Social Work student at Thompson Rivers University where she has been involved in numerous campaigns and provincial initiatives to combat youth homelessness, address mental health concerns, substance dependencies, and sexualized violence.
"I am beyond honoured and thrilled to announce my candidacy in the federal election on October 21st with the Animal Protection Party of Canada," wrote Cheeseborough. "If you reside within the Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo electoral district and are eligible to vote, I want to ask for your signature and consent for my participation!"
Cheeseborough joins the already crowded field of candidates which includes Terry Lake for the Liberals, Cathy McLeod for the conservatives, Dock Currie of the NDP, Ken Finalyson of the People's Party, Iain Currie for the Green Party, and Communist Peter Kerek.
