Thunderstorm watch issued for Kamloops, parts of the Cariboo

A thunderstorm watch has been issued for the Kamloops area.

Environment Canada issued the warning shortly after 4 pm.

“Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing heavy rain,” the weather alert says.

The potential for heavy rain also brings the risk of localized flooding, landslides and debris flows over areas that have been impacted by wildfires in recent years.

Environment Canada warns of the potential for flash flooding and reduced visibility on roadways.

Communities included in the watch include Kamloops, Ashceroft, Cache Creek.

The watch stretches into the Cariboo region including Williams Lake, Quesnel and even Prince George.
