Valleyview motel standoff leads to 1 arrest

Kamloops RCMP needed to think quickly on Saturday, this time dealing with an incident in Valleyview.

According to Sgt. Brandon Buliziuk, at 10:11 pm, officers responded to a call for service on the North Shore. The suspect fled in a vehicle, sparking an extensive search by police officers.

At approximately 11:50 pm, officers located the vehicle at a motel in Valleyview. A large contingent of RCMP converged on the scene in attempts to bring the matter to a peaceful resolution.

Based on an assessment of risk, individuals were evacuated from their rooms in the motel until the situation was resolved. Police then used loudhailers for communication.

After about one hour of speaking back and forth, the suspect surrendered and was brought into custody without incident.

The 36-year-old Kamloops man remains in RCMP custody pending further investigation. All information will be forwarded to the BC Prosecution Service for assessment and possible charges.

No further information will be released at this time.
