The City of Kamloops is excited to announce the reopening of the Westsyde Pool and Fitness Centre. From 2:00 to 8:00 pm on September 8, 2017, residents are invited to access the facility for free and enjoy the pool, use the hot tub, or work out in the fitness centre.
“The new structure is specifically engineered to withstand the unique conditions of a pool environment,” says Matt Kachel, Capital Projects Supervisor for the City of Kamloops.
The new natatorium surrounding the pool features large windows and high ceilings, providing more openness and natural light. The other areas of the facility have also been refreshed, with some new equipment in the fitness centre, a renovated lobby, and cosmetic updates throughout. In addition, Westsyde Pool will soon feature Canada’s first AquaClimb KURVE aquatic climbing wall, as well as a zip swing. Both pieces of equipment will be installed in September.
“We wanted to give Westsyde Pool something unique and make it a destination for residents throughout Kamloops,” says Kachel. “At six metres high, this will be the tallest climbing wall this company has built anywhere in the world.”
“We appreciate that this facility is an important piece of the Westsyde community that has been missed,” says Barbara Berger, Recreation, Social Development, and Culture Manager for the City of Kamloops. “We encourage residents to come check out the changes and join us at the grand opening celebration later this month.”
A grand opening event will be scheduled once the new climbing wall and zip swing are installed and phase one is complete, expected later in September. More details on the grand opening will be released soon.
