As the snow melts the bikes come out, which means the Kamloops RCMP are gearing up for the 2022 Bike Rodeo.
The youth-oriented event is looking forward to prepping young cyclists for a bike safety refresher with tons of fun activities.
On April 9 from 10 am to 4 pm, bike riders of all ages and abilities are invited to grab their wheels and helmets and head to McArthur Island.
The free drop-in event includes a helmet fitting session, bicycle safety check, and obstacle course to assess and improve riders’ skills.
“It helps them go into the riding season with renewed confidence, new skills, a properly fitting helmet, and a tuned-up bike that’s ready to go,” said Corporal Dana Napier, Kamloops RCMP Crime Prevention Unit.
The Crime Prevention Unit is teaming up with the City of Kamloops, ICBC, and The Kamloops BMX Club to offer the rodeo, which occurs during the Home Show weekend, in the Norbrock Stadium Parking Lot, off of 12th Street.
“Seeing the kids practicing their obstacles avoidance, figure eights, and intersection navigation also helps remind drivers to be aware of those sharing the road with them, especially as the weather continues to improve,” Napier added.
After the rodeo, participants can put their skills to use for spring riding around McArthur Island.
