The return of Zellers is right around the corner.
The iconic and beloved Canadian brand is making a comeback this year, with 25 stores set to open inside The Bay locations across the country.
Four of the 25 new stores will be in British Columbia and Kamloops will be home to the only Zellers location in the BC Interior.
More than 10 years after closing down in Sahali Mall, Zellers will return to Kamloops in Aberdeen Mall in the coming weeks.
A release from The Bay said that customers can expect a “thoughtful selection” of design-led products across home decor, toys, baby, apparel and pets.
The Zellers experience within The Bay will be between 8,000-10,000 square feet, depending on the location.
The first-ever Zellers.ca ecommerce site will also launch as the brick and mortar locations do, which could be as soon as later this month.
There were once 350 Zellers stores in Canada at the height of the brand’s popularity in the late 1990s, but it lost significant ground in the 2000s as competition from other superstores grew.
In early 2011, Target acquired the leaseholds for 189 Zellers locations from The Bay for $1.825 billion and 125 of them were converted to Target stores.
A year later, The Bay announced that keeping Zellers alive was not financially viable and the doors shut on the final Canadian Zellers location in 2013.
The Target experiment didn’t last much longer and the US retailer withdrew from Canada in 2015.
