A 61-year-old man has been charged with a series of offences in connection with the 10-hour closure of the William R. Bennett Bridge on Jan. 27.
Roy Winter, from Kelowna, was arrested on March 25 after he was released from hospital.
The Kelowna RCMP said he has now been charged with:
Arson
Making or possessing explosives
Use of explosives to cause serious bodily harm
Possession of incendiary material
Mischief endangering life
Mischief
Nuisance endangering life
Assault peace officer with a weapon
Resist/obstruct peace officer
Uttering threats
Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
Police said he remains in custody pending his next court appearance on April 3.
The Kelowna detachment’s media relations officer, Michael Gauthier, said the RCMP had overseen a “well coordinated and sizeable investigation” into the incident.
He added: “It is imperative that we protect the ongoing judicial process, with that no further details will be released at this time.”
