Kelowna’s Denim on the Diamond officially a go as a fully-vaccinated event

The return of Denim on the Diamond is just 18 days away, but there’s been some doubt on whether the single-day music festival would go ahead as planned given the current COVID-19 situation.

On Monday, the confirmation that people had been looking for came in the form of an Interior Health public health order updating the region’s current restrictions.

The updated orders make it possible for larger events to go ahead in the Interior, as long as participants show proof of full vaccination.

That means Denim on the Diamond will go ahead on Saturday, Oct. 2, but you’ll need to show proof of having two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine in order to attend.

Festival organizer and co-founder Mitch Carefoot said it’s very welcome news, as the city and community members need a way to celebrate and gather safely.

“We have spoken with our city stakeholders, local vendors, suppliers and artists and the 100% consensus was if we can pull it off, everyone will get behind it,” Carefoot told NowMedia.

“We are hopeful the community of Kelowna comes out to support local live music, restaurants, breweries and wineries.”

Ticket holders will receive their further details today through email and those who are not fully vaccinated will be able to request a refund.

As a result, a limited quantity of tickets will be going back on sale today after the festival sold out quickly in July.

One of Canada’s hottest country music acts, Hunter Brothers will headline the festival on the first Saturday of October.

JJ Wilde, Yukon Blonde, Moontricks, The Royal Foundry, Shawnee Kish and locals DJ Invizible and Teigen Gayse round out the 2021 lineup.
