Liberal leadership candidate Mark Carney coming to Kelowna

The man widely expected to be the next prime minister of Canada, even if it’s only for a short period, will be in the Okanagan on Wednesday.

According to the Liberal leadership candidate’s website, Mark Carney will be in Kelowna for a meet and greet event.

The event posting says he’ll meet “with fellow Liberals to talk about Canada’s future, and meeting the challenges we face as a nation today.”

Those interested in attending the meet and greet from 8:15-9:45 am on Wednesday can register online.

Carney is a heavy favourite to be named the Liberal Party of Canada’s next leader on March 9.

Polymarket, an American-based cryptocurrency prediction market, currently lists Carney’s chances of becoming the next Liberal leader at over 90%.

If Carney is successful with his leadership bid, he will become the 24th prime minister of Canada.

He’d then be tasked with leading the Liberals into an election, likely to occur this fall, where the Pierre Poilievre-led Conservatives are well ahead in the polls.
