Transportation Safety Board investigating emergency WestJet landing in Kelowna

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is deploying an investigator to Kelowna after a Calgary-bound flight from Kamloops was diverted to YLW on Thursday afternoon.

An inflight engine fire occurred shortly after take off on WestJet Encore flight 3252, but the plane landed safely with 75 passengers aboard.

"The crew followed standard safety procedures and the aircraft landed safely at 4:45 pm local time," a WestJet representative told NowMedia. "All impacted guests have since been reaccommodated on the next available flight to Calgary."

"We sincerely apologize to our guests for this inconvenience the diversion has caused and appreciate their patience and understanding as we worked to get them on their way as soon as possible."

The TSB, which is an independent agency that investigates air, marine, pipeline and rail transportation occurrences will "gather information and assess the occurrence."

It was a WestJet Encore De Havilland DHC-8-402 aircraft.
