Walk for Alzheimer's is back in Kelowna and Kamloops in May

With Brain Awareness Week kicking off on March 13, the Alzheimer Society of BC has announced the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s is back on May 28.

The event, which will take place in over 200 communities including Kelowna and Kamloops, is Canada's largest fundraiser for Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.

Organized by volunteers from across the province, the Walk honours and celebrates the lives of people affected by dementia.

In 2022, Canadians participating in the Walk raised $5.7 million.

All funds raised go towards local programs and services that improve the quality of life for people living with dementia and their families, as well as research into the causes and cure for the disease.

Two in three British Columbians have a connection to dementia, and the number of people living with dementia in Canada is expected to rise to 1.7 million people by 2050, according to the Alzheimer Society of BC.

Dementia is a term that describes a general group of brain disorders. Symptoms include memory loss, impaired judgment, and changes in behaviour and personality. It is progressive, degenerative and eventually terminal.

Kelowna’s event will take place at City Park, and the Kamloops event will be held at the Tournament Capital Centre indoor track.
