The Kamloops Blazers had a golden opportunity to bolster the roster on Wednesday with the second overall pick in the 2024 CHL Import Draft.
The annual draft of players from outside North America includes all 60 CHL teams, which means the Blazers picked ahead of 58 other organizations this year.
With the second overall pick, the Blazers took 16-year-old forward Vit Zahejsky from Czechia.
Zahejsky spent the last three seasons with the HC Energie Karlovy Vary program and posted 19 goals and 20 assists in 42 games during the Czechia U20 league’s 2023-24 season.
He also notched 12 points in only five games during a brief stint in the Czechia U17 league.
Zahejsky has also represented his country on the national stage at the 2024 World U17 Hockey Challenge, where he scored a goal and added three helpers in eight games.
He’ll suit up for Czechia again at the 2024 Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Edmonton from Aug. 5-10.
Zahejsky will join fellow countryman Matteo Koci as the import players on the Blazers roster.
