Victoria street in downtown Kamloops will play host to the second annual Hoops in the Loops 3-on-3 basketball tournament on Saturday, June 4-5.
Funds raised will go to support Kid Sport, which is a program that supplies grants to families to cover registration or equipment fees associated with participation in a season of sport.
There will be family fun events along the street throughout the weekend, with a host of local artists and vendors.
Registration is open now. Among the categories are wheelchair, co-ed 18+, men's and women's 18+, grades 4-12 boys and girls and a competitive men's division that will be invite only. A large cash prize will be handed out to the competitive men's winner, and there will be a slam dunk contest that will entertain.
The inaugural tournament in 2019 featured solely men's teams. This year's event will look to capitalize on the dearth of events during the COVID pandemic.
The annual Summer League Block Party will coincide with the basketball tournament, on the Friday and Saturday night. The block party is a two-day multifaceted festival centred around art, music, health, and community. There will be over 30 artists performing, with part of the fundraising also contributing to Kid Sport.
“Following the overwhelming response to the 2021 Santa Claus Parade, downtown Kamloops is very excited to play host and welcome friends and neighbours back,” said Executive Director of downtown Kamloops Howie Reimer.
