Kelowna’s Jerome Blake is at the top of the Canadian sprinting world following an impressive showing at the Canadian Track and Field Championships this past weekend.
After missing the 100m final because of a false start disqualification, Blake bounced back with a time of 19.95 in the 200m final — a championship record.
“This means everything to me,” said Blake after the race.
“To run sub-20 and set a new championship record at home is a dream. I’ve been working for this moment all season — and it’s just the beginning.”
Blake finished just ahead of his 4x100m teammate Aaron Brown, who managed a time of 20.08.
This is the first time Blake has run a sub-20-second 200m race, and following his personal best 100m race earlier this season, the Kelowna sprinter is hot heading into the world championships.
The 2025 World Athletics Championships are being held in Tokyo this September.
