A familiar name is back with the Thompson Rivers University women’s basketball program after the team announced Thursday that Ken Olynyk will be a technical advisor this season.
"I think it's a great opportunity and I always want to give back, I've got so much from my time that I was at TRU," said Olynyk.
"I really enjoy working with Todd (Warnick) – we conversed even when I was not around last year – if I can help in any way I want to. I'm looking forward to it and it should be really exciting."
Olynyk previously served as the TRU athletic director for more than 15 years and was recently inducted into the Canada West Hall of Fame.
"I am humbled and honoured that Ken Olynyk has joined us in the capacity of women's basketball technical advisor this season," said head coach Todd Warnick.
"For the WolfPack women's basketball student-athletes and coaching staff to have access to his incredible depth of knowledge and wealth of experience is a rare privilege. I know that myself, my assistant coach and all of our athletes will benefit tremendously from the opportunity to learn and grow from Ken's history of excellence."
Olynyk coached men’s basketball at the University of Lethbridge from 1979-88 before coaching the men’s basketball program at the University of Toronto from 1989-2002.
The father of NBA player Kelly Olynyk, Ken also has a trio of one-year coaching stints with the 'Pack and UBCO.
"I love working with the student-athletes,” said Olynyk.
“I think they are great young people that are going to become excellent leaders in our communities."
The TRU women’s basketball team returns to the Tournament Capital Centre court on Halloween against the UBCO Heat.
