PFC sends star striker Alejandro Diaz to Norway in record-setting transfer

Pacific FC announced the blockbuster transfer of star striker Alejandro Diaz to Sogndal Fotball of the Norwegian first division on Wednesday.

Pacific FC has yet to reveal the amount of the transfer fee paid for Diaz’s services, although Transfermarkt.com has listed a price of €150,000, equal to nearly $200,000 CAD.

The Mexico City native has had a career year for the Tridents, leading the league with 13 goals over 18 contests. The 26-year-old has remained one of the most consistent offensive threats for the club since arriving on the Island, Diaz has totalled 31 goals in 62 appearances.

He most recently dazzled fans with a hat trick performance in a 6-0 victory against Waterhouse FC at Starlight Stadium last week.

Head coach James Merriman is saddened to see the loss of someone of Diaz’s talent, but remains focusing on developing towards the future:

“We wish Alejandro all the best as he embarks on a new chapter of his career,” said Merriman. “While we will miss having Alejandro lead our line, we are confident in the talent and depth that remains in our team…We look forward to having Alejandro’s support from afar as we continue our run in the CPL and the Concacaf League.”

Pacific FC is set to resume their 2022 Canadian Premier League schedule this Saturday, Aug 13 at home against Atletico Ottawa.
