A star with the Kelowna Rockets who was about to make the jump to professional hockey is stepping away from the game for health reasons.
Novak made the announcement through social media this morning, noting that it’s a difficult thing to talk about and explain.
“Unfortunately, my health condition does not allow me to prepare for next season,” he said.
“I was diagnosed with an oncological disease a few days ago and will soon begin treatment.”
Oncology is a branch of medicine that focuses on diagnosing, treating and preventing cancer.
“The coming months will not be easy for me, but I firmly believe that everything will turn out well and soon I will fly again on the ice with joy and passion,” the 20-year-old added.
Novak was drafted by the Minnesota Wild in 2020 and signed his entry-level contract with the club on May 9, 2022.
He played two full seasons with the Rockets, notching 54 goals and 76 assists for 130 points in just 117 games.
The crafty winger was expected to make the jump into professional hockey this year, but that will be put on hold for now while he receives treatment for his disease.
