The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack have dipped into the local talent pool for their first addition to next year’s roster.
The ‘Pack announced today the signing of Charlie McKay, a 6’3” guard from South Kamloops Secondary.
“He (McKay) is an extremely hard worker both on the court and in the classroom and will represent our program the right way,” said head coach Chad Jacobson.
“His ability to shoot the basketball alongside his toughness and competitiveness will prove to make a positive impact for our team."
McKay has deep basketball roots in his family, the guard’s uncle is Spencer McKay, a Canadian national team vet of 10 years.
The Kamloops native also spent time working with former ‘Pack head coach Scott Clark, helping form his path to playing at the collegiate level.
"Working with coach Clark taught me how to work harder and smarter in those drills but I really like training by myself and just love playing basketball,” said McKay.
McKay is en route to joining the likeness of several locals who have suited up for the ‘Pack, making this signing even more special.
"It means more to me to play for the WolfPack being from Kamloops, I can't wait to get on the floor next year and see people in the stands that I've played with and against over the years inside the TCC," explained McKay.
"I feel like I'm very much a part of the basketball community in Kamloops, not only because I'm signing with TRU but just being a part of the culture that is made when you play pick-up basketball inside the TCC on those Tuesday and Thursday nights."
The 6’3” guard focuses on not only creating his own shots but also space on the floor to “make things happen.”
"Being able to keep the best local talent in Kamloops is very important to me as a coach and to our program," said Jacobson.
"I couldn't be happier to have Charlie wearing the orange and black next season."
