Fly fishers from across the world will soon be descending upon Kamloops and a handful of BC Interior lakes and rivers to compete in the 2023 Masters and Ladies World Fly Fishing Championships.
The event comes to Kamloops 30 years after the city hosted the 1993 World Fly Fishing Championships, with Team England emerging victorious.
The event begins in the Tournament Capital of Canada on Sept. 24, and there will be opening ceremonies that night at the Tk'emlúps te Secwe̓pemc Powwow Arbour.
The opening ceremonies are free, open to the public, and will feature the Sage Hills dancer and drummers, as well as a parade of nations consisting of the participants from 18 different countries.
Some of the teams competing include Australia, England, France, Ireland, Japan, South Africa and Team Canada.
After the ceremonies, competitors will return to their hotels and prepare to fish for five straight days at different locations.
The event will go to the Similkameen River, Clearwater River, Corbett Lake, Sullivan Lake and Tunkwa Lake.
Fishing will conclude on Sept. 29, and there will be medal presentations and a closing ceremony to end off the day.
There is a need for volunteers for the event to act as officials, and anyone interested can reach out to organizers through Facebook or by email.
