SilverStar Mountain Resort was full of excitement today as the first signs of its new gondola began to take shape.
Crews installed 11 new towers for the gondola that will soon replace the mountain’s iconic green Summit Chair.
Most of the heavy lifting was done by helicopter as a Kamov KA-32 from Vancouver Island was flown to assist crews on Wednesday.
The impressive chopper carried the massive towers up the mountainside throughout the day, carrying a maximum load of 8700 pounds.
The flashy new gondola can carry up to eight passengers per cabin, plus skis and snowboards, to the top of SilverStar in under five minutes.
The new ride will be accompanied by a brand new cafe at the top of the mountain where skiers can enjoy a light meal and refreshments.
Today's successful tower installation means the gondola remains on time for its opening date of July 7, 2018.
