A semi-truck driver and tow-truck driver were both handed tickets after a BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) officer found the semi-truck broken down in the middle of the road.
On June 19, a BCHP officer was on his way to a post office in Fort Nelson when found his way blocked by the semi-truck.
A news release says the truck was carrying a load of mail but began falling apart when the driver attempted a u-turn.
When the driver attempted too sharp of a turn in the parking lot of the post office, the truck’s rear axle snapped and the axle air bags were blown.
When the BCHP officer spoke to the tandem drivers of the semi-truck, he found more problems.
“Both drivers were issued tickets for falsified or incorrect log books,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin.
The truck needed to be towed away on a flat deck for inspection, so a tow company was called.
However, a competitor tow-truck driver was trying to get the job but was handed a ticket for using an electronic device while driving.
Eventually, the semi-truck was towed away.
“Most commercial drivers understand that there is a higher expectation of safety and professionalism for people who drive big, heavy rigs,” said Cpl. McLaughlin.
“When they don’t take their responsibilities seriously enough, BC Highway Patrol will be there.”
