Dachshunds rescued from ‘terrible living conditions’ in the Okanagan give birth

Three of 30 Dachshunds that were rescued from breeders in the Okanagan earlier this fall have welcomed several puppies into the world.

The BC SPCA says that three of the dogs rescued in late September were pregnant at the time and they combined to give birth to 11 puppies.

According to the BC SPCA, the three litters are six weeks old, three weeks old and one week old.

Unfortunately, due to their circumstances before they were rescued, three of the puppies were not healthy enough to survive.

The rest, however, have been doing well, with the exception of Little Pea, who struggled to feed and was dangerously small.

The BC SPCA says Little Pea has been “making incredible progress” thanks to bottle feeding and around-the-clock care to help her gain weight.

“All the moms and their puppies were taken into care by experienced fosters so they could get all the special attention needed,” explained a BC SPCA release. “Taking on a nursing mom takes knowledge and patience.”

Each of the dogs and puppies involved in this rescue have been getting tailored care to address their needs, which includes grooming, vaccinations, dental treatments and specialized diets.

The BC SPCA proudly shared that nearly all of the 30 dachshunds that were rescued in September have been adopted and will spend the holidays in their new forever homes.

The puppies won’t be up for adoption until they reach eight weeks of age.
