Considering the Vancouver Canucks are still involved in the Stanley Cup playoffs, there are an abundance of fans walking around wearing Canucks jerseys these days.
If you see two with Sedin names on the back, and autographed, they may belong to the British Columbia Hockey Hall of Fame.
The Sedins 2019 induction jerseys have been stolen.
That information is now available on the Crimestoppers Facebook page.
On August 14, 2020 at a 12:24 PM, a male, entered the BC Hockey Hall of Fame in the South Okanagan Events Center. The male allegedly broke into two cabinets and stole two autographed Vancouver Canucks jerseys (Daniel and Henrik Sedin). He is then seen leaving with the jerseys and eventually departs in a 1995-2001 green Ford explorer. Okanagan South Similkameen Crime Stoppers is asking that you help identify this misguided Canuck Fan.
“I came in to do some curating at the Hall of Fame a week ago today (Aug. 18) and I found two cabinets inside the Hall of Fame propped open,” explained HHOF executive director Blain Ford Tuesday while standing outside South Okanagan Events Centre, where the Hall of Fame home is located. “They happened to be Henrik and Daniel Sedin cabinets from the 2019 induction. Taken from those cabinets were two signed jerseys, one from each of them.”
For Ford, who has been building up other areas of the BC Hall of Fame, it’s disappointing to see the theft of memorabilia.
“We put a lot of hours into making this whole thing look good - particularly since our most-recent project has been just enhancing the look of the Hall, and making the displays more interactive for the public,” said Ford. “We’re definitely disappointed for something like this to happen.”
The BC Hockey Hall of Fame Is now putting its faith in the RCMP and Crimestoppers to look for the suspect, and jerseys.
“Items like that are quite unique. They probably are fairly valuable. But at the same time, I would think they are difficult to sell locally knowing that they are so unique,” said Ford. “I'm not a collector myself by those authentic jerseys on their own are probably worth $150 to $200. You throw a signature on there and it adds almost a priceless element to it.”
Ford is adamant the BC Hockey Hall of Fame will take a look at ways of better protecting the cherished memorabilia collected by the Hall.
“I believe so. I think we're going to work with SOEC on this to ensure the level of security is at a level we’re comfortable with moving forward,” said Ford. “We want to ensure this is something that’s not going to reoccur.
“We’re hopeful people will enter the SOEC just to learn about the Hall of Fame and hockey’s history as opposed to trying to find items they might deem valuable.”
