High temperatures cause angling closure on Horsefly River

The province is temporarily closing all angling on the Horsefly River from Quesnel Lake to the Woodjam Bridge.

This closure will help protect rainbow trout from health risks associated with rising water temperatures. When water temperatures rise above 18 degrees Celsius, the mortality rate of catch-and-release trout increases.

Water temperatures between 19 C and 23 C have been recorded downstream of Woodjam Bridge.

The river will be monitored closely by ministry officials and reopened when conditions return to normal.
