Mounties are investigating a pedestrian collision in Burnaby over the weekend that sent a pair of youths to hospital with serious injuries.
Emergency crews were called to the scene on Hastings Street, between Delta and Hythe avenues, around 12:45 pm Saturday.
According to police, an 11-year-old boy and nine-year-old girl were struck by a grey Mercedes sedan that was travelling westbound.
The driver of the Mercedes remained at the scene, while the latest update from the RCMP said the children both remained in hospital with serious injuries.
“We are doing everything we can to support the families and loved ones of these children, but we need the public’s assistance here,” noted Cpl. Mike Kalanj.
Police are urging any witnesses, or those with relevant dash cam footage from the area early Saturday afternoon, to come forward.
“With these children and their loved ones in mind, please contact our investigators with any information or dashcam footage,” added Kalanj.
“We are not just asking for video around the collision, we would like to speak to anyone with dashcam video on Hastings Street and any feeder roads between 12:30 pm and 12:45 pm anywhere east of Springer Avenue as well.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999 and quote file number 2026-14863.
For the privacy of the family, police will not be providing any further details about the victims at this time.
