Two Earthquakes in Abbotsford Since Thursday

Update: The occurrence of an earthquake at 4:39 a.m. local time on August 29th has been confirmed by the U.S. Geological Survey. The earthquake's magnitude was 2.6 and it happened five kilometres east of Mission, B.C.

Original story:

Reports are surfacing on Twitter of a second small earthquake in the Abbotsford area in just over two days.

On August 27th, at approximately 7 p.m. local time, a magnitude 2.4 earthquake was recorded in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Its depth was nine kilometres.

Now residents both of that city and of Mission are saying that they’ve felt a second small shake.

The magnitude of this second earthquake has yet to be reported by official sources, but it serves as a reminder that B.C.’s coast line is fraught with fault lines.

Anyone who felt the quake is encouraged to report it via Earthquakes Canada.
