The commercial fire was reported around 10:00 a.m. in the small community 11 kilometres east of Sicamous. Fire departments from surrounding areas were called to the fire, which is believed to have started on the second floor of the building. Several residents have taken to social media to show just how quickly the fire spread.
Once firefighters managed to get the flames under control, it was evident there was little left to save of the structure. The building, located on Highway 1 in Craigellachie was beyond saving. Luckily no one was injured as a result, but police are still on scene dealing with the hazard the gas and propane may cause.
It is suspected the fire was sparked by a space heater, but that has yet to be confirmed.
