The Union of BC Performers has issued an advisory to talent agents and actors in the province about the casting call for Jeepers Creepers III.
Film director Victor Salva was convicted of sexual misconduct against a 12-year-old boy in 1988. The boy starred in the film Clownhouse and Salva videotaped one of the encounters and pleaded guilty to several charges. He was sentenced to three years in state prison, of which he served 15 months. When the union was informed about Salva's criminal past, they issued the notice.
The Union is reminding performers they have a right to refuse work if they believe the nature of the work is unsafe. Given the nature of Salva’s prior conviction, the union is asking agents to disclose this information to the parents/guardians of any minor performers who are being put forward for roles on the upcoming production.
“The Union has reached out to the production and they are aware of Mr. Salva’s prior criminal conviction,” said the union in a statement.
According to Deadline, the casting notice, which was posted on Breakdown Services, was pulled once the alert about Salva’s past went out. Salva is best known for directing Jeepers Creepers and Powder.
