The Dry Gulch Bridge, located just east of the Coquihalla summit, is set for construction.
The steel-arch bridge will receive a much necessary major rehabilitation to increase safety along the corridor.
“Crews will start work this spring to rehabilitate and resurface the Dry Gulch Bridge, which is located near the summit of the Coquihalla,” said Minister of Transportation, Todd Stone. “This is the first major rehabilitation on the Dry Gulch Bridge since it was built in 1985.”
All four lanes of the bridge deck will be resurfaced, and the abutment bearings and expansion joints will be replaced.
The project, which is expected to be complete in the fall of 2017, will extend the life of the bridge deck and create close to 20 direct jobs.
“Highway 5 is a vital link in our transportation network and a critical trade corridor linking the Lower Mainland with the rest of Canada,” said Fraser-Nicola MLA, Jackie Tegart. “Therefore, it’s critical we keep this highway in good condition, with well timed rehabilitation.”
The project is currently tendered on BC Bid.
