2 BC men dead after house under renovation collapses

A tragic accident has claimed the lives of two men on Savary Island.

On April 6, 2025, at about 2 pm, Powell River RCMP received a report that two people were trapped under a home that had collapsed on Patricia Crescent on the small island, located in the northern part of the Strait of Georgia.

The house was being renovated and was in the process of being lowered onto a new foundation when it collapsed.

Savary Island Volunteer Fire and EHS responded to the scene and it was confirmed that two men were dead and a third was severely injured.

The injured man was transported to the hospital by EHS and is expected to recover.

Firefighters worked to raise and stabilize the house in order to reach the other two men. They were extracted with the help of EHS, the BC Coroner’s Service and the Powell River RCMP.

RCMP said that an investigation has determined that there was no criminality involved in the incident.
