Sadly, an incident involving suspected drug overdoses at a Vancouver Island beach ended in two deaths this week.
According to police, officers were called to the beach access parking area on Taylor Road in Metchosin on Aug. 30, 2024 at 6:25 am.
A group of four people were reportedly in medical distress at the site. RCMP said there was a substantial police presence at the scene, as well as multiple units from the fire department and paramedics.
Police said that “evidence of hard drug use was apparent at the scene.”
Two adult women were confirmed dead at the scene, despite life-saving efforts. The cause of death was not disclosed.
Two adult men were rushed to hospital, where they remain in critical condition. Police said they appeared to be suffering from drug overdoses.
The BC Coroners Service has been notified, and police are continuing their investigation.
Police do not suspect foul play at this time.
An investigation is underway, and in the meantime, beach and road access may be restricted in the area.
“We appreciate the public’s cooperation in staying away from the area while investigators continue their work,” the RCMP said.
“Our condolences go out to the families of these individuals, as well as the witnesses who first came across the incident.”
