2 people sent to hospital after building set on fire by alleged arsonist

A woman has been charged with arson causing bodily harm after two people were injured in a fire in Merritt this week.

According to Mounties, officers were called to a structure in the 1900 block of Houston Street on May 20 at 5 am for a fire.

The Merritt Fire Department and Emergency Health Services were already on scene when police arrived.

Two people suffered significant injuries from the fire. Both were stabilized and remain in hospital.

A suspect was arrested at the scene. Lynn Johnny was charged and remains in custody. She is set to appear in Court virtually on May 24, 2024 for a bail hearing.

The Merritt RCMP is asking anyone with information about the incident, who has not yet spoken to police, to please contact them at 250-378-4262.
