Tragedy struck a BC resort as a three-year-old girl was killed while playing mini-golf on the weekend.
According to a statement from Mount Washington, on Friday afternoon, a girl was playing mini-golf with her brother when a rock got dislodged on the course. It then hit her in the head, leaving her unconscious.
"Her parents brought her to the base lodge of Mt. Washington where staff and first-aid responders began treatment and summoned emergency transportation and the RCMP for assistance," wrote the resort.
Emergency crews responded from Cumberland and Campbell River to assist the girl. This included an air ambulance from Qualicum Beach.
Life-saving measures were performed, though they were ultimately unsuccessful.
“This is such a sad tragedy,” said Dean Prentice, General Manager of Mt. Washington Alpine Resort. “The team at Mount Washington extends our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of this little girl. It is just devastating, and our hearts break for them. I would like to thank the first responders and our dedicated staff for their efforts in this unfortunate situation.”
The exact circumstances surrounding the girl's death are still being investigated by RCMP and the BC Coroners Service.
